Nuclear Cowboyz is sweeping the nation, with the team of experienced motocross riders hitting big cities such as Baltimore, Dallas and Pittsburgh.
Dustin Miller, one of the tour’s most experienced riders, was kind enough to do a phone interview regarding the process and behind the scenes ventures of Nuclear Cowboyz.
Dustin has won an X games silver medal and a Winter X Games bronze medal, both for the best trick. A list of the upcoming venues is provided after the interview.
The Sporting Rave: How did you get involved in Nuclear Cowboyz?
Dustin Miller: I got invited to join the tour. Some of the stunts are pretty dangerous, so it’s not something you can really sign up for.
TSR: How do you prepare for Nuclear Cowboyz events?
DM: I don’t really do anything special. Sometimes there’s a basketball game at the arena the night before, so our crew can’t set up until the morning of the events.
TSR: What kind of rehearsing do you do for the shows?
DM: Before the tour we spent 12 days in Florida going over the script and routines. Now I just show up, but occasionally they make minor changes to the show.
TSR: How involved has Fuel TV been, with their “Nuclear Cowboyz: Behind the Scenes” filming?
DM: They film a lot of the action and riders, and it’s all completely real. None of it is scripted.
TSR: How did you become interested in Motocross?
DM: I started riding when I was two. I raced for awhile until it became too expensive, so then I got into freestyle BMX. I made a name for myself, and get more work because of it.
TSR: Do you have a favorite venue to perform?
DM: It’s usually the same atmosphere one everything’s set up, the crowds really get into it. I’d say Boston stood out last year though.
TSR: What kind of training is required for Nuclear Cowboyz?
DM: You just have to be able to perform the stunts. You have to be on top of your game though, some of the stunts are dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.
TSR: Any advice for people planning to attend a show?
DM: Little kids bring earplugs, and get ready to cheer and make some noise!
